A small buffalo ranch in Fence. I'm sure we will see much bigger herds when we get further west.
An update for Rickie S. 😋  Still in Fence Wisconsin until Sunday, then we head west. Two nights at the St Croix Casino in Turtle Lake Wisconsin, campground is part of it. Then a quick drive through Minnesota, staying just one night before entering North Dakota in Fargo.

Our campsite at Lake Hilbert.
We are in Fence, Wisconsin, staying at Lake Hilbert Campground. No cell, no wifi, no TV, kind of like the old days! Here for 7 nights and have already connected with some of the locals. Expecting my aunt Judy and her friend Don to arrive today.

Driving around to find a signal we are seeing beautiful Wisconsin farm land as pictured above. It is nice here, not many bugs, sunshine and temps in the low to mid 70's daytime and 50 at night.

Posts here will be few until Sunday due to the lack of connections.

Camped on a retired B-52 airbase tonight, K I Sawyer Airbase. Got a tour of the air museum this afternoon, including a B-52 and two fighter jets. The museum cureator is letting us camp in their lot, of course there is no lack of space and we are alone.

The picture above is from our spot, and shows the sun is just setting at 9:45 PM! We are close to the western edge of Eastern Time zone. Tomorrow we go to Wisconsin and lose an hour, or perhaps gain one.

Today we hiked about 11 miles along the Tahquamonen River in the Upper peninsula of Michigan. Along the way we viewed both Tahquamonen Falls upper and lower. They are about 4 miles apart. This area is beautiful, a lot like Maine. Also like Maine, it is a mosquito paradise! We are tired tonight.

So today started out with heavy rain, until just after noon. We had a noon tee time at Boynes Monument Course. Fortunately it was not busy and we waited until 1230 when the rain did stop to start. Cloudy for awhile, the brightened up. Trish hit the ball well and we had a good round.

Then we went down to the harbor and enjoyed a cold draft at Stiggs Brewing. By then the sun was out and it was beautiful!

All is good, tomorrow we are off to the upper peninsula of Michigan for 4 nights at Tahquamonen Falls State Park. Will post from there if I have any cell signal, I heard it is doubtful.

Nice view from our campsite on Lake Charlevoux in Boyne, Michigan. It's about 85 degrees and the water is cold, but felt awesome once you get in! Golf tomorrow at one of Boynes 5 courses.

So far after 15 days.

Map posted for Rickie Smith!

Nice spot camping tonight, we are parked next to a cherry orchard. We are here as guests at Robinette's. They're part of a group called Harvest Hosts. Basically it is a $49/year membership and get to camp free at many participating places. Most are wineries, farms and outdoor museums. This is our second stay with a host since we left. They make awesome wines, their cherry wine was fantastic. Robinette's is just North of Grand Rapids Michigan.
Tomorrow we are off to Boyne Mountain.

Interesting town of Nappanee, Indiana. Home of Newmar, the company that built the Breeze. It has a very large Amish community as evidenced by the parking lot of the town's supermarket in one of the pics. All of the stores and many of the houses have hitching posts!

The other pic just shows an interesting truck I saw on Main Street.

Boy are we happy tonight! We are back on the road! The Breeze now has fully functional dash air conditioning. Just in time as we are headed into the 90's tomorrow. We have decided that the next time we need service we will plan on 4 days so we don't care when they can't live up to their promises.

We got away from the Freightliner dealer just before 3 pm and drove only 100 miles to Lakeville Indiana. Nice campground that we plan to stay 2 nights. We need to relax and plan the next few days.

Next big stop is in the upper peninsula of Michigan, staying 4 nights at Tahquamonen Falls. The two days travel before we settle in for 7 nights in Wisconsin at Lake Hilbert Campground. We are lucky we will get to spend time with Judy Hill and Don, who will be staying there many of the same days.

Considering the last couple days, this evening is wonderful. Nice temp, only a few bugs, and a full bottle of wine!

Today's Fort Wayne personality is Kathy, our bartender at the Holiday inn. Watching her try to deal with multitasking was like watching a sitcom. What a piece of work! But she made a mean marguarita and kept us well entertained. The couple at the next table said they come once a week just for the show!
Today is a day of firsts!  Jacks first hotel room!!  Jack's first elevator ride!! And our first day of stress on our trip🙁.  We are staying at the Holiday Inn Purdue, because The Breeze, our motorhome, is in the shop.

Short story is we are in day 3 of incompetence at the Freightliner dealer in Fort Wayne. Easy stop to have our dash air conditioning recharged turned into 3 days due to "F" ups. It needed a compressor, so back orders and other issues has us frustrated, our source of stress.
,
We are promised to be done tomorrow afternoon, but have heard that since Monday. We'll be optimistic and plan to be on the road again tomorrow. It still beats working!

Ok, more on Fort Wayne. I talked about Walter in my last post, yesterday we met William. No, that's not William pictured, that's me with my new glasses. William was the bartender at a brewery we visited yesterday afternoon for a late lunch. It was William's last day there before taking a new job. So, quite a character, we got samples of many beers, including draws right from the tanks. We learned about everything from the beers he brews, the house he built and the high quality of his wife's, well, I can't say what here. He was of course referring to comments made by the midwife who delivered their daughter six weeks ago!

Anyway, good thing Trish was driving, the beer was excellent, as was my hamburger with pulled pork, pineapple and jalapenos. Trish had very good fish tacos. Our bill was only $30 thanks to William's generosity.

Fort Wayne seems to have some interesting personality.
We are still in Fort Wayne Indiana, staying at Johnny Appleseed Campground. We met Walter at the golf course and played a great round of golf with him. Walt is not only a very good golfer, but a very interesting person. He owns a cake making business and teaches children how to play golf. We got a few good tips!

We arrived in Fort Wayne yesterday and decided to get some work done at the Freightliner dealer. Our dash air conditioning wasn't working and we don't want to get into the heat of summer without fixing it. Turns out our compressor needs replacing and the part couldn't get here until Wednesday. Fortunately we had no schedule problems so here we stay.

Nice spot tonight in Bucyrus Ohio. The town was named as a combination of beautiful and Cyrus.  We are here for two or three nights. The local campers and owners are wonderful, treating us like celebrities because we are from Maine...LOL.

Got the grand tour by golf cart from Judy, a sweet 75 year old woman whose daughter and son in law own the campground.  She came by our site as we were setting up and was immediately taken by Jack. She loves dogs and just thought he was really special, which of course he is!

Friday, June 8, 2018

Not every campground will be perfect, such is today's story. Nothing wrong with it, probably would be great if we were staying the summer. Lots of seasonal campers. We did get 9 holes of golf in this afternoon though!  We are in Kennedy, NY.  Tomorrow we are going for a longer than average drive, 250 miles to Bucyrus Ohio. Then we'll settle in for two or three nights.  We are about 800 miles from Carrabassett Valley.
I think this traveling is agreeing with both of us.
Watkins Glen gorge, beautiful!

Tonight's camping spot. Beer, wine and awesome pizza. chateau layfayette reneau on Seneca Lake NY!

Tuesday, June 5, 2018

Fun visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame today. Great to see my favorite player's plaque!

Monday, June 4, 2018

Today was fun, started rainy, cleared a bit, then poured before clearing into a beautiful 65 degree evening. We drove from Vermont to Glimmerglass State Park in  Cooperstown NY. Above is our campsite for the next two nights, although we may decide to stay longer if the weather is good. Baseball Hall Of Fame tomorrow.

Sunday, June 3, 2018

Day 3, hiking and golf, but most importantly, Jack went swimming! Beautiful sunny day in Vermont. Tomorrow we leave New England headed west.

Saturday, June 2, 2018

Day 2 was much better!  Started with breakfast at John and Donna's, steak, maple sausage and eggs! Nice drive over the Kancamagus Highway, visited with Sue and Dave in Woodsville NH, then on to North Clarendon Vermont. Picture is out our front window at Iroquois Campground. We are still quite green at the set up process, it will be nice when it is more automatic.

Friday, June 1, 2018

Day 1, what a day!  Started badly when I forgot to put the car in gear after hooking it up to tow. Result being 100 yards of tiremarks on RT 27 in Carrabassett Valley! Thankfully no damage to the car and the rest of the ride went well. Only 3 hours today to Norway Maine where we are guests of John and Donna Friberg at their restored 1800's era farm. As the pictures show, a beautiful setting for our first night on the road.
